It can make people want to instantly sign up for your products and services.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s nothing like \u201csocial proof\u201d to improve your \u201cKnow-Like-Trust\u201d factor. The higher your KLT, the more successful you\u2019ll likely be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/go.ftcguardian.com\/bw4uoy\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/ftcguardian\/images\/728x90-Un-vjy-FTC-GUARDIAN-banner-2.gif\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><b>So\u2026 what makes a testimonial <\/b><b>powerful<\/b><b>?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s easy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Truth. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If it\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Truth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then it will naturally be a powerful testament to what you can do for your clients and customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A powerful (truth-<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">full<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) testimonial overcomes skepticism and makes it easy, even for diehard skeptics, to push the \u201cBuy Now\u201d button.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the elements of a powerful testimonial:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not flowery or gushy, a.k.a. fake;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s written the way people talk;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides answers to the objections people are quietly thinking to themselves, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat makes her different from any other lawyer out there?\u201d \u201cWhy should I pay that much for something like this?\u201d \u201cWhat if it doesn\u2019t work?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It paints a clear \u201cbefore and after\u201d picture in the mind of the reader of how the writer was transformed by using your product or service;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a real person with a first AND last name (at least) and maybe their website URL or where they\u2019re from.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Testimonials don\u2019t have to necessarily be written word. They can be also be videotaped or voice recorded. Just make sure you have permission to use them (see below).<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>And finally\u2026 keep it legal.<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be absolutely certain you have permission to use the testimonial as well as the person\u2019s personally identifiable information, including (especially) their photo. Don\u2019t open yourself up to a lawsuit for a breach of their right to privacy. It can be as simple as keeping the email in which they consented as proof.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If someone says no to allowing their name to be published, find someone else. First-name only testimonials always look suspect, even if they\u2019re real.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal Trade Commission<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (FTC) regulates advertising in the US and I swear it can smell a rat false advertising a mile away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FTC has made it illegal to issue false claims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it\u2019s illegal to use testimonials that can\u2019t be backed up with clear proof.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In the case of the weight loss industry, for example, the law is pretty clear: you\u2019d better have scientific evidence to back claims that are not typical of what \u201cthe average person\u201d would experience or make a clear statement that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">results are not typical<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AND GET THIS:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FTC can hold both you AND the person who wrote the testimonial responsible for deceptive marketing practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yup\u2026 deceptive practices are a big no-no.
