{"id":5374,"date":"2017-08-27T14:06:10","date_gmt":"2017-08-27T14:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ftcguardian.com\/articles\/?p=5374"},"modified":"2017-08-27T14:07:11","modified_gmt":"2017-08-27T14:07:11","slug":"nestle-accused-of-colossal-fraud-in-poland-spring-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ftcguardian.com\/articles\/nestle-accused-of-colossal-fraud-in-poland-spring-suit\/","title":{"rendered":"Nestle Accused of &#8216;Colossal Fraud&#8217; In Poland Spring Suit\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Nestle Accused of &#8216;Colossal Fraud' In Poland Spring Suit<\/h1>\n<p>By\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/registrarjournal.com\/2017\/08\/19\/nestle-accused-of-colossal-fraud-in-poland-spring-suit\/\">Dan Gutierrez\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite claims that it draws its water from &#8220;eight natural springs&#8221; in the ME area, the suit says, &#8220;Poland Spring Water products all contain ordinary groundwater that Defendant collects from wells it drilled in saturated plains or valleys where the water table is within a few feet of the earth's surface&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed in a CT federal court and accuses Nestle Waters North America, Inc. of a &#8220;colossal fraud perpetrated against American consumers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"popup_SDLM\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#popup_SDLM_modal\" href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/button_banner-SDLM.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This does not comply with FDA regulations that say the water must either come from a spring or be siphoned off from the well that supplies that spring, the suit says. It is seeking millions of dollars in damages for a nationwide class and appears to hinge on whether the sources of Poland Spring water meets the Food and Drug Administration's definition of a spring.<\/p>\n<p>Nestle has also had trouble in other areas of the US, as bottled water out sells soda as the most popular drink in the United States and as it searches for other new sources of water.
